Dr. Sam Richards and Dr. Laurie Mulvey are both professors at Penn State University. Dr. Sam Richards is a sociologist and award-winning teacher who has been inspiring undergraduate students at Penn State since 1990. Both are heavily into the subject of Race Relations and started the Race Relations Project, where Dr. Mulvey is the Co-Director.
Twenty-five years ago, Dr. Laurie Mulvey and Dr. Sam Richards unwittingly began what would become a lifelong project—learning to embrace the seemingly irreconcilable differences between them. Conversation was the centerpiece of their personal odyssey, and it became the foundation of the World in Conversation Project. The World In Conversation Project challenges people of all ancestries to examine the biases, the rumors, and the inherited scripts… and to listen to the stories of people who appear to be on the other side. This kind of engagement has the power to build real alliances.
